The Best Spring Landscaping Tips

Signs of spring are springing up in Connecticut, or they will be soon! From hearing the birds tweet in the mornings to seeing crocuses and hyacinths starting to pop up, you know that the warmer days of spring will be on their way in after our long, snowy winter. Those who enjoy puttering around in their yards are probably itching to get their hands dirty once the ground thaws enough! As the snow melts and the days grow longer, here are some things that you can start doing to make your yard look nice for spring:

Clean it up!

Once the snow is all gone, you’ll probably notice some errant unraked leaves and other lawn debris. If your yard is very muddy, then this step will have to wait, but if not, go ahead and rake up whatever you can. That alone will make a difference in how your dormant lawn looks while you wait for the sun to revive your grass.

Get ready for mowing season

Right now, you might be frustrated with the flattened brown grass that has been hidden under the snow for so long, but soon enough, you’ll be spending your weekends mowing and trimming! Start up your mower to make sure that it’s still working properly. Add oil and make sure that you have gasoline on hand, and take it for a tune-up if necessary.

Aerate your lawn

Early spring is the right time to aerate your soil. Introducing air to the area will help your grass develop strong roots and grow well. Check out this great article on the whens, hows and whys of aeration, and learn about how you can do this yourself in preparation for the growing season.

Look for other ways to boost your curb appeal

Although your grass is not quite ready to win a “best lawn on the block” trophy, there are other things that you can do to bring some life and vigor to your front yard. Some secrets of better curb appeal from Omniscapes Ohio Landscpaing include painting your front door, updating your lighting and cleaning up and decorating your front porch. Taking some of these steps now before you have to put a lot of energy into maintaining your lawn will get you in the mood for spring!
After such a long, cold winter, most of us are ready for Mother Nature to pile on the sunshine and even the springtime rains so that we can start enjoying warmer temperatures, budding trees and blooming flowers. If we get a nice, warm weekend, you’ll want to spend some time outdoors in the yard, letting all of the passersby know that spring has sprung!
